Some notes from Zilly on her creative process:
"Wedding cakes are layered, and so is the process of creating one. This is what I love so much about being a “cake artist.” In the initial stages, I get to meet with you individually to learn about your style and taste. It's my job to help you understand and process all of your choices. Often I work with couples to bring together different elements that they have seen and liked on other cakes into a completely new creation. My training as a teacher helps me to draw out and understand your aesthetic preferences rather than projecting my own onto you.
Once we have a common vision, I put those ideas on paper using the computer graphic program Photoshop. Together we revisit these sketches and make alterations as needed. When you work with me, communication is ongoing. Helping you to feel involved and valued through outstanding personal service is one of my highest goals. The other main goal is to make a gorgeous, delectable, unforgetable cake that suites you perfectly.
When I get to retreat into my studio to create the cake we’ve envisioned in three-dimensions…and out of the most delicious art materials imaginable…that is a real dream. But the process doesn’t stop there for me. Delivering and assembling the cake on site at your reception offers me a glimpse into the setting of this incredibly important day in your life, and it is a privilege to be part of it. I feel a personal connection with all my brides and grooms, and I keep my business on an intimate scale so that connection doesn’t get sacrificed."
