Where it all started...
Some notes from Zilly:
Twenty-nine years ago, at the tender age of 15, I got the job of "cookie girl" at the bakery Ganache in Evanston, IL. The owner taught me to roll gingerbread and pipe with royal icing using a parchment triangle. I caught on quickly, and soon became indispensible during the holidays. Just call me the fastest icing "piper" in the midwest!
I worked at Ganache for eight holiday seasons, all the way through college and into grad school. After I left the bakery for a career in teaching art, it just wasn't Christmas unless I was baking 1000s of cookies! So for many years, my friends and relatives received opulent cookie baskets as gifts. Now I'm back at it for the general public.
In addition to artisanal holiday cookies, I offer a display of seasonal cut-outs that is always changing. I also design special cut-out designs for my clients who need something special for a party favor or sweets table.
I may have graduated to the "cake lady" in my 40's, but there will always be a place for the "cookie girl" in my heart and in my display case!
